MMHL Play-off Rules 2010
Host associations are to ensure that a copy of these rules is available at the Timekeeper’s bench for all Play-off games.
1. All MMHL games played by members and qualifications of all players competing in such games as members of the teams shall be in conformity with the Articles, Bylaws and Regulations of CHA, HNS and HNSMC as well the rules of competition as adopted and prescribed by the Executive of HNSMC and the Executive of MMHL.
2. All players, coaches and team officials are expected to abide by the philosophies laid out in the Mission Statement of the MMHL. “The Metro Minor Hockey League is committed to providing a positive hockey experience for players, coaches and parents, based on the principles of sportsmanship, skill development, equal ice time, and fair play.” Failure to honor this shall be dealt with by the MMHL.
3. No ‘PROTESTS’ will be entertained.
4. On ice officials, as well as scorekeepers and timekeepers, must be supplied by the home association.
5. Cancellation and rescheduling of any game requires the approval of the Divisional VP. Any team declining to play as per the VP’s ruling shall forfeit the game by a 5-0 score.
6. In all divisions, the definition of a game as well as playing time of games shall be the same as league play (three 10 minute stop time periods) and as per MMHL Regulation 5 – Game Timing Procedures.
7. Ties will count in Round Robin play – no overtime to decide the outcome of a game.
8. Teams tied in the standings at the conclusion of all Division Play-off games will be determined by :
a. Most Points
b. Most Wins (all games)
c. Most Goals For (all games)
Note: the differential of “goals for” in a game will be limited to 5. E.g. if the score of a game is 10 – 1, it will be recorded on the website as 6 – 1. If it was 9 – 2, it will be recorded as 7 – 2. If it was 6 - 0, it will be recorded as 5 – 0, etc, etc.
d. Least Goals Against (all games)
If these teams are still tied, there will be a one game playoff to decide who advances.
9. The top 4 teams in each division will advance to the crossover semi-finals at the MMHL Championship Weekend to be held at the St Margaret's Center - Smith Ice March 26 & 27, 2010. The winners of these semifinal games will advance to the respective Championship games on Sunday March 28, 2010. Final schedule TBA.
10. There are no “TIMEOUTS’ in MMHL play-offs.
11. An official game report shall be completed in triplicate, for each game played. The game number must be on all game reports.
12. Teams must dress a minimum of 8 skaters and 1 goaltender, or the game will be forfeited to the non-offending team by a score of 5-0. Skaters may be obtained, only if short up to the minimum of 8 skaters and only with MMHL – Division VP approval.
13. Any team found to be playing illegal players, shall result in the game(s) being awarded to the non-offending team in every game in which the illegal players took part by a score of 5-0. The player or players will still be required to serve out the remainder of their suspension(s). The Coach(s) or Team Official(s) will be under indefinite suspension, until dealt with by the HNSMC and MMHL Executive.
14. No player is permitted to represent more than one team in the play-offs and must play for the team as registered with HNS, HNSMC, and MMHL.
15. ‘Code of Discipline’ of CHA, HNS and HNSMC will apply for all games.
